Barry Loewer

Probability and typicality are central to accounts of explanation in statistical mechanics and accounts of the relation between fundamental properties and laws laws and thermodynamic and other special science properties and laws. In my talk I will survey various ways of thinking about probability and typicality and various accounts of their relationships to macroscopic laws and properties. One of my aims is to figure out whether probability and typicality approaches are rivals or complementary or ??
